Can I do community service work hours for my traffic ticket? How do I turn in my proof of community service?

You can do community service in lieu of payment on non-criminal citations.

You must come into the clerk's office to make the request. The Clerk's office does not have a form to provide you, however you may hand write or type the request to do community service in lieu of payment. Community service hours are due on the same date the citation is due - no extensions are available for community service without Judge's approval. Any collection agency fees must be paid at or before the time the community service hours are filed.

To figure the number of hours of community service take the amount of the civil penalty and divide by current minimum wage. Any collection fees or reinstatement fees may not be paid using community service.

Proof of community service may be submitted via US mail or hand delivery to either of the clerk's office locations: Okaloosa County Clerk of Court - 1940 Lewis Turner Blvd., Ft. Walton Beach, FL 32547 or 101 East James Lee Blvd, Suite 108, Crestview FL 32536.

NOTE: Per Florida Statute 318.3(a) The proof of community service must be on company letterhead and notarized prior to filing.
